Bad Wildungen

It’s easy to see how the fairytale landscape of the Waldecker Land might have inspired some of its most famous residents, the Brothers Grimm - its magical country landscapes are certainly worth writing home about. Why not start with a trip to the nearby Kellerwald-Erdsee National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site listed among the 10 most beautiful forests in the world? Listen as a gentle breeze stirs the sun-dappled leaves all around you, wander through a rare beech forest, and enjoy scenic hikes or bike rides down one of many picturesque routes.

Closer to home, a stroll through Bad Wildungen will take you past quaint traditional architecture and local shops, while cultural highlights include the 13th-century Schloss Friedrichstein, a sprinkling of interesting museums, and the imposing Schloss Waldeck fortress, just 20 minutes’ drive away overlooking the dreamy Erdsee lake.
