An old coaching inn turned boutique hotel in Surrey’s quaint market town of Dorking – includes breakfast, optional dinner credit, and welcome treat

  • Stylish accommodation: Surrounded by the captivating natural beauty of the Surrey Hills, this 18th-century coaching inn turned boutique hotel is both refined and relaxing. Beautifully-refurbished spaces boast inviting interiors with individual design elements, and a smattering of charming memorabilia commemorating Charles Dickens, who worked on The Pickwick Papers in these same walls.

  • Excellent dining: Tuck into British favourites old and new at the restaurant, whose menu celebrates locally sourced produce and fresh, seasonal ingredients. Wash it down with sparkling and dessert wine from Denbies Wine Estate down the road, or perhaps tap ales and lagers from nearby breweries.

  • Idyllic location: Your hotel is in the perfect spot for a chance to recharge your batteries and escape into a tranquil refuge, whether you fancy taking a walk through the leafy woodland of the Surrey Hills, exploring the market town charms of Dorking, or spending time at the many local award-winning vineyards.

How to get there

The White Horse Hotel is in the centre of Dorking, and easy to reach by car or train. Regular trains run from London, getting into the town in under an hour, and the hotel is approximately 15 minutes’ walk away. You can also drive in easily - Dorking is around 25 miles from London, and the hotel is just off the A24.

Good to knowPlease note that if you plan to have dinner at the restaurant, it must be pre-booked with the hotel directly after booking, prior to arrival.

Dorking

Staying in Surrey’s quaint market town of Dorking, you'll have the scenic Surrey Hills just moments away. Refresh yourself with a bracing walk up Box Hill, or leap across the stepping stones over the River Mole.

The traditional market town is home to a wealth of exceptional produce - head to Denbies Wine Estate to visit the country's largest vineyards, and be sure to sample a glass. Then head back into town and make a beeline for West Street, dedicated entirely to antique stores. If you don’t come away with a treasure to take home, you certainly won’t leave empty handed from Dorking’s traditional weekly market, filled with delicious food, drink and local artisanal goodies.

The historic hotel also has a literary touch, as it once hosted the writer Charles Dickens while he worked on The Pickwick Papers. You’ll find charming memorabilia around the hotel, as well as a quirky cocktail menu inspired by the famous novel.
