Katastari

The island of Zante, or Zakynthos, is a rocky gem cast adrift in the Ionian Sea, surrounded by sparkling waters that lap onto paradisiacal white beaches or up against sheer cliffs. The green, hill-strewn interior is carpeted in olive trees and small, tumbledown villages – many now abandoned after the earthquake in 1953.

The island offers many facets to suit all visitors: thriving nightlife in Zakynthos Town or Laganas, exploring the island’s history at the Venetian Castle or its forgotten villages, snorkelling and watersports on its beautiful beaches (a trip to Marathonisi ‘turtle island’ to learn about the endangered loggerhead sea turtles is a must-do) or sampling the delicious fresh Mediterranean cuisine in one of the island’s excellent-family run tavernas.
