A scenic, romantic stay in homely but elegant quarters in an ancient, hilltop Italian hamlet, wrapped in breathtaking Val d’Orcia scenery - includes breakfast and welcome bottle of wine

  • Authentic and elegant: The rooms and suites of Rocca d’Orcia Suites and Villas are scattered amongst the winding cobbled streets and terracotta tiles of the hamlet. In the morning, step right out onto an authentic scene of rural Tuscany, and return to bright and airy guestrooms that balance rustic charm with classic Italian elegance. Settle into your serene, inconspicuous hotel and soak up breathtaking views across the lush Val d’Orcia.

  • A taste of Tuscany: Breakfast like a local in the morning, and later on pull up a chair in your hotel’s convivial grill restaurant – think stone walls and chequered tablecloths – serving up traditional Tuscan flavours to perfection. Savour succulent steaks and top quality cuts fresh off the grill, served alongside seasonal vegetables, sumptuous soups and grilled cheeses. Pair it all with a sublime local wine.

  • Try your hand: As if you weren’t already immersed in Tuscan provincial life, your hotel offers a unique range of activities and classes to connect you deeper to the flavours and traditions of Val d’Orcia. Make a mess in the kitchen with a Tuscan cooking class, taste local cheeses and wines and learn the history behind them, hop up on horseback to explore the scenery and even take part in a woodland truffle hunt (fees apply).

How to get there

Rocca d'Orcia

The wider valley of Val d’Orcia is a UNESCO world heritage site, so your surroundings are the epitome of natural Italian beauty. The inky green cypress trees, rolling vineyards and woodland make for heavenly rambling by foot, bicycle or even by horse. It’s worth simply hiking far enough just to look back on your tiny village from a distance, rising up on the hill like a gem from a long ago medieval fairytale.

The hamlet itself stands on ancient roots likely dating back to the Etruscan age. Be sure to explore the 11th century architecture, from the imposing rocca (fortress) itself to the piazza and church replete with classic frescoes – there’s often even some contemporary sculpture on display for a striking contrast. You can tour other medieval villages nearby, such as Montecchiello, San Quirico d'Orcia and Montalcino, the last of which might sound familiar for its renowned Brunello wine. The Antiche Terme Romane Libere (thermal springs) are also well worth a trip to absorb the mineral goodness of the cloudy blue waters.
