Grange-over-Sands

The hotel's South Lakes location is knockout, just outside the Cumbrian village of Grange-over-Sands, steps from the shore of Morecambe Bay and a 15-minute drive from Lake Windermere - the watery wonder long loved by poets, writers and painters like John Ruskin, Beatrix Potter, Samuel Coleridge, and William Wordsworth. Here, you can visit Beatrix Potter’s house at Hill Top, marvel at William Wordsworth’s cottage near Grasmere, and spend time in Bowness-on-Windermere, before cruising around the lake and its 18 islands.

Grange-over-Sands itself is a quiet seaside retreat on the southern tip of the Cartmel Peninsula, most famous for its long promenade, lovely gift shops and surrounding nature. Those into medieval architecture will appreciate the 2021 Tripadvisor Travellers' Choice Cartmel Priory a 10-minute drive away; have a nosy around before lunch and local ale at Unsworth’s Yard Brewery and a flutter at Carmel Racecourse - born from the racing traditions of the Priory's monks in the 12th century. For local walks, head into the limestone woodland of Brown Robin Nature Reserve behind the hotel or walk 40 minutes up to the tiny 1846-built Hampsfell Hospice, for far-reaching views of the Old Man of Coniston fell, Helvelyn, the Langdales and Morecambe Bay from the tiny roof.
