Escape to Tuscany's rolling hills at this rustic farmhouse escape in the Maremma, with sweeping views, a stunning pool and a zero-kilometre restaurant - includes breakfast, one three-course dinner, and a bottle of wine in the room

  • Rustic charm: On walking up to Tenuta Fattoria Vecchia, you’ll be blown away by the cosy, country vibes, stunning stonework and picturesque surroundings. Unwind and relax with panoramic views of the rolling hills as you lounge by the pool, relax in the grounds or explore the local area on foot or on horseback.

  • Authentic dining: Enjoy local produce and homemade pastries for breakfast, then savour delicious, authentic Tuscan dishes at the restaurant. Simple traditional recipes are showcased here alongside locally made wines made from the sweet grapes grown within the nearby vineyards; the menu changes weekly, but you're guaranteed an excellent meal, no matter what you choose.

  • Activities aplenty: The hotel offers a range of exciting optional experiences, including wine and cheese tasting, picnicking under the olive trees, nipping around the Maremma Hills by bike, or a embarking on a range of local tours of the Maremma villages. Happy days can be spent relaxing around the pool, taking in the views with a book.

How to get thereThe tenuta is located in the picturesque Tuscan countryside between Rome and Florence, roughly two hours and 40 minutes from Rome and just over two hours from Florence. The coast is just over an hour away too, putting pretty seaside resorts like Follonica within easy reach. Given the rural nature of Tenuta Fattoria Vecchia, we'd recommend getting a hire car.
Good to knowPlease note that the outdoor pool is only open seasonally. Please ask the hotel directly for further details.
Please also note that members should contact the hotel for restaurant opening days and times. The owners may occasionally change the closure days in certain weeks, based on a particular situation of the room occupation and/or on special events. For further information please contact the hotel.

Province of Grosseto

Here in the deep south of Tuscany, closer to Lazio and Umbria than the classical Tuscan cities like Florence and Pisa, these rolling hills are quieter and less visited than the north. The natural splendour is the perfect playground for outdoor pursuits, like hiking and biking, saddling up for a horse ride, golfing on pristine greens, or heading down to the coast to enjoy a spectacular setting that draws only those in the know.

Grosseto is the nearest big town and can be reached in half an hour: a veritable treasure trove of art, culture and history. Snaffle up Tuscany's cucina povera in one of its charming trattorie, stand in Piazza del Duomo and marvel at the black and white marble cathedral, or take a trip out to Marina di Grosseto to laze on the beach. A secret spot about an hour south (but well worth the trip), the Monte Argentario peninsula in southern Tuscany is often referred to as ‘the corner that tourism forgot’. While Tuscany conjures up images of slender cypress trees, vineyard-clad hillsides and winding roads between rolling hills, this unspoiled peninsula has been largely left to rewild since the Americans left after the Second World War. Here you’ll find the type of tranquillity one could only dream about - think quiet harbour villages bobbing with colourful fishing boats – their hauls landed from the Tyrrhenian Sea, with citrus-hued villas clinging to cliffsides. In peak summer it’s hot and full of Italian holidaymakers, but still devoid of the clogged roads and packed beaches of further along the coast.

The vineyards in the area produce many delectable wines, so wine-lovers should make sure that a vineyard tour is high on their to-do list. If food is more your thing, explore the smaller towns and villages of the Maremma to find some of the most authentic Italian food around.
